ALWAGHT- In Syria, Israeli troops escalate actions with ground raids and short-term checkpoints in Daraa and Quneitra, monitored by drones.
Israeli forces continue to violate Syrian sovereignty with ground incursions and temporary checkpoints in Daraa and Quneitra. On Saturday, troops advanced into the village of Ma’ariya in western Daraa, as well as Koya and Abidin, while another force set up a checkpoint in al-Samadaniya al-Sharqiya in Quneitra, accompanied by drones monitoring the area.
Human Rights Watch has accused Israel of committing war crimes in southern Syria, including forced displacement, home demolitions, arbitrary arrests, and blocking residents’ livelihoods. Since December 2024, Israeli forces have conducted near-daily incursions into border villages in Daraa, Quneitra, and rural Damascus, with satellite imagery and eyewitness accounts supporting claims of abuses.
Meanwhile, Syria is pursuing a US-mediated security understanding with Israel, similar to the 1974 disengagement agreement. Syrian transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa emphasized that the deal, expected to be finalized soon, would not signify normalization or relate to the Abraham Accords, but aims to establish mutual security arrangements amid ongoing Israeli military activity.
