ALWAGHT- The agreed ceasefire plan includes a prisoner swap, delivery of humanitarian aid, and reopening the Rafah crossing.
Hamas and other Palestinian resistance factions have accepted a ceasefire proposal brokered by Egypt and Qatar, according to a senior Palestinian official. The plan calls for Israeli forces to withdraw one kilometer from northern and eastern Gaza, excluding the towns of al-Shujaiyya and Beit Lahia.
The agreement includes a major prisoner exchange: 10 Israeli captives would be released in return for 140 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences, 60 with long-term sentences, and 1,500 detainees from Gaza. Additionally, for every Israeli captive’s remains returned, the bodies of 10 Palestinians would be released, and all incarcerated women and children would be freed unconditionally.
The ceasefire would allow extensive humanitarian aid into Gaza, including fuel, water, electricity, hospital and bakery rehabilitation, and debris clearance. The UN, Red Crescent, and other international organizations would manage the distribution, while the Rafah border crossing would reopen for two-way traffic under the agreement.
The proposal also includes a 60-day temporary suspension of hostilities, with negotiations planned for a longer-term ceasefire and governance framework. The multi-phase plan aims to eventually transition Gaza to an internationally supported structure, prioritizing reconstruction and long-term stabilization, as outlined in both Egyptian and US-backed initiatives.
