Iran’s UN Envoy: Israeli Strike on Iran Constitutes an Act of War

ALWAGHT- Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations condemned Israel’s latest attack on Iran, labeling it a declaration of war, and stated that Tehran will invoke its right to self-defense as provided by Article 51 of the UN Charter.

Iran’s UN envoy, Saeed Iravani, strongly condemned Israel’s recent attacks on Iranian territory during a statement following a UN Security Council session, labeling the strikes as unlawful, terrorist aggression that violated Iran’s sovereignty and international law. He accused Israel of targeting safeguarded nuclear facilities, military and civilian infrastructure, and residential areas, resulting in dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries, mostly among civilians, and warned that such actions risked triggering a broader catastrophe.

Iravani asserted that Israel’s actions, carried out with the support of the United States, amounted to a declaration of war and a direct attack on the international legal order and the United Nations itself. He emphasized that these attacks were not acts of self-defense but premeditated aggression, and called on the Security Council to condemn Israel and uphold its obligations to maintain peace and the rule of law.

He concluded by stating that Iran will exercise its right to self-defense as provided under Article 51 of the UN Charter, promising a lawful and proportionate response at a time of its choosing, and warning that silence from the international community would be tantamount to complicity.
