ALWAGHT- Iran refuses to negotiate its uranium enrichment in indirect US talks and insists this right is non-negotiable, said FM Abbas Araghchi.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticized the United States for taking what he described as "unreasonable and illogical" positions in recent days, particularly regarding Iran’s uranium enrichment program. He emphasized that Iran entered the ongoing talks to protect its national rights and stressed that uranium enrichment is not up for negotiation under any circumstances. Araghchi also cited support from Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who called US demands to halt enrichment activities a "huge mistake" and reaffirmed that Iran operates based on its own policies, independent of external approval.
Despite four rounds of indirect talks with the US, mediated by Oman, Iranian officials remain frustrated by what they see as contradictory US messaging and continued sanctions. Washington has recently reiterated its demand that Iran cease all uranium enrichment, a position Tehran firmly rejects. Araghchi noted a discrepancy between US officials' public and private stances, calling it a sign of inconsistency that undermines the negotiation process.
In parallel to talks with the US, Iran has engaged in separate discussions with European powers—Britain, France, and Germany—who are also signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal. Araghchi expressed openness to rebuilding ties with Europe and encouraged European nations to play a constructive role in facilitating a diplomatic resolution to the nuclear issue.
