ALWAGHT- Despite a recent ceasefire agreement, Syrian army troops engaged in clashes with Kurdish SDF units near the Tishreen Dam in Aleppo governorate.
Clashes erupted overnight between Syrian army forces and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near the Tishreen Dam in northwestern Aleppo, according to state media. Military sources claim the SDF launched a direct assault on Syrian army positions, prompting a counteroffensive in which government forces reportedly regained two strategic positions. The incident comes just days after a ceasefire and integration agreement was signed between the SDF and the Syrian government.
The March 10 agreement aimed to unify civil and military institutions of the Kurdish administration under central Syrian control, covering vital sectors like border crossings, oil fields, and national security. However, the sudden clashes have cast doubt on the durability of the deal. Army sources reported sending significant reinforcements to the Tishreen area, suggesting a breakdown in trust and raising concerns about the ceasefire's sustainability. The SDF has not issued a statement regarding the confrontation.
Meanwhile, separate clashes broke out between Syria’s General Security Forces and suspected ISIS members in the Haydariya and Jisr al-Jazmati neighborhoods of Aleppo. One security officer was killed, others were injured or captured, and a suspected militant detonated himself during the confrontation. In response, Syrian authorities launched a “special operation” targeting ISIS-linked hideouts, resulting in arrests, the seizure of weapons, and increased security across eastern Aleppo.
