ALWAGHT- Geir Pedersen, the United Nations special envoy for Syria, has strongly condemned Israel's growing violations of Syria’s sovereignty, demanding an immediate halt to its airstrikes.
UN Special Envoy Geir Pedersen condemned Israel's ongoing airstrikes in Syria, particularly in Damascus and other cities, emphasizing that these actions violate Syria's sovereignty. He called on Israel to immediately cease the airstrikes and respect Syria's territorial integrity, stressing that the attacks endanger Syrian civilians.
The Israeli air raids, which occurred late Friday, targeted multiple areas, including Damascus, Latakia, Hama, and Daraa. The strikes resulted in at least one civilian death and several injuries. These actions were framed by Israeli officials as a response to the presence of forces south of Damascus, especially from the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group, and to protect Syria's Druze minority amid rising sectarian violence.
The UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria rejected Israel’s justification, warning that the attacks threaten Syria’s stability and risk deepening divisions among its communities. Israel has also been expanding its occupation in the Golan Heights, violating past agreements, and increasing military activity in southern Lebanon and Syria.
