ALWAGHT- Israeli forces committed 343 press freedom violations in early 2025, killing 15 Gaza journalists, with increased attacks in al-Quds and Jenin, reports Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate.
The Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate reported 343 Israeli violations against press freedom in early 2025, including the killing of 15 journalists in Gaza—seven in January and eight in March. Attacks also claimed the lives of 17 journalists' family members, destroyed 12 journalists' homes, and left 11 severely injured. The report documented 49 near-fatal shootings of press crews, often under pretexts like "warnings," alongside 15 arbitrary arrests of journalists.
Repression extended beyond violence, with 117 journalists obstructed from reporting—particularly in al-Quds and Jenin—through assaults, equipment seizures, and tear gas exposure. Fourteen journalists were beaten, while 13 in Jerusalem faced interrogations and bans from covering Al-Aqsa Mosque. The syndicate highlighted systematic efforts to silence Palestinian media, including legal harassment and deleted footage.
Calling the violations "deliberate and escalating," the syndicate urged journalists to prioritize safety while vowing to document crimes for international accountability. It condemned Israel’s campaign to control narratives and demanded action to end aggression against Palestinian media workers.
