ALWAGHT- Hamas slams US for stripping UNRWA immunity, accusing Washington of 'blatant anti-Palestinian bias'.
Hamas has strongly condemned the US Justice Department's decision to revoke UNRWA's legal immunity, calling it proof of Washington's "blind bias" toward Israel. The group warned that the move—announced in a New York federal court filing—aims to undermine Palestinian refugees' rights and dismantle the UN agency. Hamas demanded the US reverse its decision and urged global support for UNRWA’s funding and legal protections.
The US lawsuit alleges UNRWA staff involvement in the October 7, 2023, Palestinian operation, seeking massive compensation. Hamas rejected the accusations, insisting UNRWA is a humanitarian lifeline and accusing the US of complicity in Israel’s "genocidal crimes" in Gaza. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also condemned the move, stressing UNRWA’s critical role for Palestinian refugees and demanding US funding restoration.
The controversy unfolds amid Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza, which has killed over 51,355 Palestinians and injured 117,248 since October 2023. Despite ICJ rulings and UN ceasefire demands, Israel's siege continues, blocking aid and leaving thousands buried under rubble. The OIC called for urgent international action to halt the violence and uphold Palestinian rights.
