ALWAGHT- Hamas states that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is fully responsible for the ceasefire collapse after his decision to resume aggression in Gaza.
Hamas accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of deliberately ending the ceasefire to appease far-right minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who previously resigned in protest over the truce. After Israel resumed bombing Gaza last week, Ben-Gvir’s party rejoined Netanyahu’s coalition, strengthening his fragile government. Hamas called on the international community and mediators to pressure Netanyahu into halting the war and returning to ceasefire negotiations.
The movement warned that Israel’s renewed aggression puts Israeli captives at risk, contradicting Netanyahu’s claims that military action could secure their release. Hamas insisted it was trying to keep the captives alive, but Israel’s indiscriminate airstrikes were endangering them. The group also pointed out that past Israeli military attempts to recover captives by force had resulted in their deaths.
Israel’s war on Gaza, launched on October 7, 2023, has killed over 50,000 Palestinians. A ceasefire agreement was reached in January after Israel failed to achieve its objectives, including Hamas’s elimination and the captives' release. The first phase of the truce, marred by Israeli violations, ended on March 1, with Israel refusing to negotiate further. Since March 18, Israel has resumed airstrikes on Gaza, effectively collapsing the ceasefire and halting the prisoner-exchange agreement.
