ALWAGHT- The Russian Defense Ministry reports that the Ukrainian drone assault on the country was the largest of 2025.
Russia’s military reports that its air defenses shot down over 300 Ukrainian drones in what is believed to be the largest cross-border attack since the start of the war in 2022. The drones were downed overnight across 10 regions, including Moscow, Belgorod, Bryansk, and Voronezh, with over 200 targeting Moscow and Kursk.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that more than 70 drones were intercepted over the capital. The attack resulted in one death, three injuries, and significant damage, including fires in residential areas and cars. Authorities imposed flight restrictions and temporarily halted train services in affected regions.
The attack also led to the closure of six airports, including major Moscow hubs like Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo, due to safety concerns. There has been no immediate response from Ukrainian officials, despite the timing of the attack coinciding with Ukraine's diplomatic meetings in Saudi Arabia aimed at discussing peace efforts with the US.
