Iran Denounces US Sanctions on ICC

ALWAGHT- The spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry criticized the US sanctions on the International Criminal Court over its investigations into the Israeli regime's crimes, calling the move a blatant misuse of power that threatens global peace and security.

Iranian official Esmaeil Baghaei criticized the United States for its long-standing reliance on sanctions and coercive measures, particularly through the extraterritorial application of its laws. He condemned the recent US sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) for investigating Israel's actions, calling it a new low in US complicity with what he described as an "occupying apartheid regime" responsible for severe atrocities against Palestine. He viewed the sanctions as an abuse of power designed to grant Israel impunity for crimes that endanger global peace and security.

The sanctions were imposed through an executive order signed by former US President Donald Trump, accusing the ICC of engaging in "illegitimate and baseless actions" against the US and its ally, Israel. The order specifically targeted the court for issuing arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The US framed the ICC's actions as an overreach of its authority and an unjustified attack on Israel.

Human rights activists criticized the US move, warning that sanctioning ICC officials would undermine international justice efforts. They argued that such actions could have a chilling effect on global accountability mechanisms and contradict US interests in other conflict zones where the ICC is conducting investigations. Baghaei urged the international community to recognize the gravity of the situation and respond accordingly.
