ALWAGHT- Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, emphasized that Iran has consistently opposed oppression and remains the sole nation supporting all Muslims.
An Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf arrived in Addis Ababa yesterday for an official visit to Ethiopia.
During his visit, Qalibaf met with Sheikh Ibrahim Tufa, Head of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council, also known as the Majlis. Highlighting Iran's religious diversity, Qalibaf stated, "In Iran, we have various religions, and in the Iranian Parliament, there are representatives not only from Shia and Sunni communities but also from Christian, Jewish, and Zoroastrian faiths." He further noted that Iran's Parliament currently includes 26 Sunni representatives.
Sheikh Ibrahim Tufa commended Iran’s global support for Muslims, describing Iran as "a symbol of the Muslims of the world." He also praised Iran's opposition to US policies and its support for Palestine and Lebanon, calling these efforts a source of pride for all Muslims.
During his time in Ethiopia, Qalibaf is expected to meet senior government officials to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Ethiopia and Iran share strong ties in areas such as trade, investment, tourism, and technology transfer. The two nations have maintained formal diplomatic relations since 1950, and this visit marks a significant step in strengthening their historic relationship.
