Pezeshkian Advocates for Enhancing Economic Relations Among Muslim Nations

ALWAGHT- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the need to strengthen economic relations among Islamic nations by introducing a unified currency and leveraging the potential of shared markets during this critical period.

President Masoud Pezeshkian, during a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Cairo on Thursday, underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral relations. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 11th D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation summit. Pezeshkian highlighted the need to enhance interactions between Iran and Pakistan, establish their joint borders as zones of peace and friendship, combat terrorism, and boost cooperation in the energy sector.

Prime Minister Sharif, in response, emphasized the deep historical and cultural ties between Tehran and Islamabad. He voiced support for President Pezeshkian's proposal of creating a unified currency and leveraging shared markets among Islamic nations. Sharif also condemned the Zionist regime’s actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, as well as violations of Iran’s sovereignty, calling for greater collaboration within the Islamic world to address common challenges.

Both leaders discussed the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, known as the Peace Pipeline. They acknowledged the strategic importance of the project and agreed on the need to resolve outstanding issues preventing its completion. Pezeshkian and Sharif instructed their respective ministers to identify and address the main obstacles to expedite the project’s implementation.

The discussions reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to deepen their partnership, enhance economic cooperation, and strengthen unity among Islamic nations. The leaders stressed the importance of collective efforts in addressing regional challenges and fostering peace and development.
