Iran Criticizes EU3 for Failing to Comply with JCPOA

ALWAGHT- Iran's ambassador to the United Nations condemned the European trio for failing to uphold their commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and for leveling unfounded accusations against Iran.

In a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UN Security Council President Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Iran's UN ambassador, Saeed Iravani, denounced Germany, the UK, and France (E3) for their accusations against Iran. He refuted claims of Iran's non-compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and UNSC Resolution 2231, asserting that Iran's actions were lawful responses to the US's unilateral withdrawal from the agreement in 2018 and the E3's failure to fulfill their obligations.

Iravani accused the E3 of breaching their JCPOA commitments, particularly by failing to lift sanctions as required. He highlighted actions such as the EU extending sanctions under questionable pretenses and the UK introducing new sanctions in 2023. These measures, he argued, contravened JCPOA provisions and harmed Iran's civilian sectors, undermining the agreement's objectives and the Iranian people's welfare.

Iran emphasized its adherence to its Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and its rigorous transparency measures, despite the E3's continued accusations. Iravani criticized the E3 and the US for pushing politically motivated resolutions against Iran, ignoring progress in Iran's cooperation with the IAEA.

The letter reaffirmed Iran's commitment to peaceful nuclear activities under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its readiness for meaningful diplomacy to ensure the JCPOA's full implementation. However, Iravani urged the E3 to reverse their violations and fulfill their commitments, emphasizing that mutual respect and adherence to international law are crucial for progress.
