ALWAGHT- Interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani underscored Iran's right to carry out a "deterrent" response against Israel to safeguard regional security.
In a post on X, Bagheri Kani stated that he had conveyed his remarks during a Sunday phone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Iran has vowed to retaliate against Israel for the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas resistance group, in Tehran.
The top Iranian diplomat mentioned that their discussion covered recent regional developments, including the child-killing Zionist regime's attempts to escalate Gaza tensions through dangerous actions in Lebanon and Yemen, as well as the assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran.
"I emphasized Iran's legal right to an appropriate and deterrent response to ensure the region's stability and security," he added.
Bagheri Kani also noted that both sides agreed on the need to strongly condemn the Israeli assassination of Haniyeh and called for international efforts to halt Israel's aggression against Gaza and establish an immediate ceasefire.
Wang, he said, supported Iran's legitimate efforts to defend its sovereignty, security, and national dignity, and expressed a desire for close cooperation with the Islamic Republic to maintain regional peace and stability.
