ALWAGHT- The Iranian Foreign Ministry praised Venezuela's successful, transparent, and democratic presidential election, which resulted in Nicolas Maduro's victory, and expressed Iran’s support for the South American country’s efforts towards progress.
In a post on his X account Monday morning, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani congratulated the Venezuelan government and people on their successful presidential election.
Kanaani highlighted the significant voter turnout and the presence of numerous international observers, despite threats and harsh sanctions against Venezuela, as signs of the country’s democratic institutionalization.
He reaffirmed Iran's support and solidarity with Venezuela in advancing its national development goals and enhancing bilateral cooperation.
Nicolas Maduro, 61, has been declared the winner of Venezuela's presidential election by the electoral authority.
Elvis Amoroso, head of the National Electoral Council, announced that Maduro won 51 percent of the vote, defeating opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez, who received 44 percent. Amoroso noted that these results, based on 80 percent of voting stations, indicate an irreversible trend.
