Iran Seizes Foreign Tanker Smuggling Oil

ALWAGHT- The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has captured a Togo-flagged oil tanker for smuggling petroleum in the Persian Gulf.

The IRGC Navy’s 3rd naval zone announced that its forces seized a Togo-flagged oil tanker in the northern Persian Gulf on July 26.

The tanker, with nine Indian crew members on board, was smuggling over 700,000 liters of oil, according to the IRGC, which added that the seizure was carried out under a judicial warrant.

The vessel, named “Pearl G,” is owned by an Iraqi national residing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the statement said.

The Iranian military seized the ship while it was being loaded with smuggled oil from Iranian launches. The tanker has since been transferred to Iran’s Imam Khomeini pier.

In late January, the IRGC Navy had also confiscated a foreign tanker carrying two million liters of smuggled fuel in the southern waters.

In recent years, the IRGC Navy has employed modern detection equipment to monitor movements in the Persian Gulf and ensure the security of the marine route.
