ALWAGHT- The leader of the Atomic Energy Organization expressed that he engaged in positive and forward-thinking conversations with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
"Mohammad Eslami" shared during a joint press briefing with Rafael Grossi on Tuesday, following bilateral technical talks with the agency's delegation. He expressed appreciation for Grossi's participation in the international nuclear conference. Despite criticism and attempts to depict Iran's engagement with the agency in a negative light, Eslami highlighted the belief that mutual agreement provides a solid foundation for interaction, emphasizing it as the guiding principle between Iran and the agency.
Eslami elaborated, stating that while progress on the March statement was seen as positive, cooperation faced challenges due to internal and agency-related factors, leading to dissatisfaction on both sides. Moving forward, interactions will be guided by a three-part joint statement. The first part addresses historical issues outlined in the JCPOA, each with its unique complexities linked to external and political matters, and not to be generalized to other sections. Within this framework, focus remains on resolving the significant issue of the remaining two sites, while progress has been made on addressing material imbalances.
Eslami elaborated further: The next segment addresses the present circumstances, wherein we operate within the parameters of the NPT and applicable resolutions, aiming to address expectations and shortcomings. We engage in mutual actions to facilitate coordinated progress. As for the third segment, overseen by both the Director General and Mr. Grossi, it necessitates forward-looking measures. The Director General's role, mandated by legal obligations, must focus on facilitating the removal of barriers and the resolution of pertinent issues, predominantly of a political nature. This aspect is pivotal in our endeavors.
Grossi: I offered Iran a proposal comprising practical operational measures
During a press conference alongside Mohammad Eslami, Rafael Grossi remarked, "I am delighted to be in Isfahan today, a city renowned for its literary, musical, and historical richness. Earlier this week, I held significant discussions with Iran's senior negotiators and Foreign Minister in Tehran. This signifies a pivotal moment, marking the initiation of fresh engagements between Iran and the Agency.
He elaborated, "As highlighted by Mr. Eslami, a year ago, we reached consensus on a crucial joint statement, underscoring cooperative monitoring and remedial actions, and addressing outstanding issues. This document delineates additional measures both parties must undertake, recognizing existing deficiencies. Today, we concurred on the continuity of this document, affirming its relevance.
Grossi conveyed that he proposed a set of operational steps to Iran, with teams from both sides currently defining these mutual actions in separate sessions.
