Iran denounces US airstrikes on Iraq and Syria as a ’strategic error’

Iran denounces US airstrikes on Iraq and Syria as a ’strategic error’

Iran's Foreign Ministry asserts that the recent US airstrikes conducted overnight constitute "violations of the sovereignty and territorial integrity" of the two nations involved.

Iran contends that the United States' attacks within Iraq and Syria represent a "strategic error," exacerbating tensions and instability in the Middle East, which have been heightened by the Zionist regimes military campaign in Gaza.

US forces initiated a series of airstrikes targeting resistance forces in Iraq and Syria on Friday in response to a drone attack in Jordan that resulted in the deaths of three American soldiers.

Later, US President Joe Biden affirmed that the strikes "will persist at moments and locations determined by us."

In a statement issued on Saturday, Nasser Kanaani, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, denounced the US attacks as a "violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq and Syria, international law, and a clear breach of the United Nations Charter."

"The attacks merely serve the interests of the Zionist regime, further entangling the US government in the region and overshadowing the crimes committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza," the statement asserted, referring to the Israeli regime.

Highlighting the potential threats to regional and global peace and security, the statement called for the United Nations Security Council and the international community to intervene and prevent the escalation of the crisis.

The Iranian statement underscored that the "root causes of tension and crisis in the region stem from the Israeli regime's occupation and its ongoing military operations in Gaza, which result in the genocide of Palestinians with unconditional support from the US."

"The restoration of stability and security to the region is only achievable through addressing the root cause of the crisis and finding a resolution," the statement emphasized.

The US has maintained military bases throughout the Middle East for many years, with approximately 30,000 US soldiers stationed across the region. Moreover, since the onset of the Gaza war in October, the US has deployed thousands of additional troops to the region temporarily, including on warships.

Iran has denied any involvement in the attack on the US base in Jordan.
