Yemen FM Slams UK Role in Arab Nation’s Suffering after Envoy’s Remarks

Yemen FM Slams UK Role in Arab Nation’s Suffering after Envoy’s Remarks

Alwaght- The foreign ministry of Yemen’s National Salvation Government has strongly condemned the UK over its “criminal approach” towards the impoverished and war-wracked Arab country, stating that its policies have led to the serious deterioration of people’s sufferings as it torpedoes any attempt aimed at establishment of nationwide peace.

The ministry said in a statement that London is involved in everyday hostilities being committed against the Yemeni nation, and stands brazenly on the side of Saudi-backed thieves and terrorists who were deposed by Yemenis.

It stressed that the latest remarks by British Ambassador to Yemen Richard Oppenheim clearly attests to London’s criminal role in exacerbating the sufferings of Yemenis, and explicitly show that British is chiefly accountable for the maximum pressures campaign against Yemen, the blockade on Yemen, and starvation of people.

The statement pointed out that Oppenheim’s comments have brought shame on all Britons, and acknowledges Britain’s in engaged in war crimes being perpetrated against Yemenis.

“These crimes which are being committed without any reservations, give the Yemeni nation the full right to pursue and punish British officials through all available legal channels,” it read.

The head and deputy head of Yemen’s so-called Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) reviewed the current situation in the country in a meeting with Oppenheim in the Saudi capital of Riyadh on January 10.

The PLC chairman Rashad al-Alimi briefed the British ambassador to Yemen on retaliatory attacks on oil facilities and “the implications of these attacks on the humanitarian and economic situation” in Yemen.

Oppenheim said the UK supports the Saudi-backed government of Yemen, and alleged he co-ordination of efforts “to ensure that 2023 is a year of peace for Yemen.”

The Yemeni foreign ministry stressed that Britain is apparently prolonging the Yemen conflict, further deteriorating the miseries of Yemenis, impeding peace efforts, and resuming vicious military assaults.

It held Britain, the US and their allies fully responsible for the status quo in Yemen, and warned against the rise of tensions.

The ministry finally called on the United Nations and all freedom-loving people of the world to condemn Britain’s flagrant intervention in Yemeni domestic affairs, which significantly obstruct restoration of peace.

It underlined the need for a balanced and thorough assessment of the economic situation in Yemen, and effective measures to address the sufferings of the Yemeni nation.

Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with its Arab allies and with arms and logistics support from the US and other Western states, launched the devastating war on Yemen in March 2015.

The objective was to crush the popular Ansarullah resistance movement, which has been running state affairs in the absence of a functional government in Yemen, and reinstall the Riyadh-friendly regime of Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.

While the Saudi-led coalition has failed to achieve any of its objectives, the war has killed hundreds of thousands of Yemenis and spawned the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
