Alwaght- The missile that hit Poland was fired by Ukrainian forces, Associated Press reported on Wednesday, citing US officials.
Three American officials told AP that according to preliminary assessments, the missile that landed in Poland on Tuesday and reportedly killed two people had been fired by the Ukrainian forces that aimed at incoming Russian rockets.
The Polish authorities, however, did not hesitate to accuse Russian for the explosion and Poland’s President Andrzej Duda made phone calls to leader of the NATO allies, and the Polish foreign minstry summoned the Russian ambassador to the country, claiming that a Russian missile fell in the country.
Russia's defense ministry has fiercely rejected Poland's claim of a Russian missile striking Polish territory, slamming the allegation as "deliberate provocation aimed at escalating the situation", amid reports, which blame Ukraine for the strike.
"No strikes on targets near the Ukrainian-Polish state border were made by Russian means of destruction," the ministry said in an official statement amid rising tensions over the war on Ukraine that began in February.
The Russian ministry further emphasized that the wreckage reportedly discovered at the scene of the strike "has nothing to do with Russian weapons."
