Iran’s Pres. Raisi Leaves to New York for UNGA Session

The US Should Make Its Final Decision on Nuclear Deal: Pres. Raisi

Alwaght- Iran's President Sayed Ibrahim Raisi met his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in New York as the two are in the US for United Nations General Assembly's 77th session.

The two presidents discussed a set of issues, among them the revival of the nuclear deal.

The meeting is Raisi's first head-to-head with a major Western leader since he was elected last year.

Raisi blamed the US for the stalemate in nuclear talks amd told Macron Iran is ready for a "fair and sustainable" agreement, adding that this is possible if the Americans present credible guarantees and close Iran's cases in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The two also discussed bilateral ties. Raisi noted that the two countries can upgrade their trade and cooperation, however, this needs Europe to prove it is independent and is not subject to the Washington's policy.

He referred to the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal Iran signed with world powers in 2015 and panned Europe for its lack of commitments under the deal to allow Iran enjoy economic benefits of the agreement.

At the same time, he criticized a German, British, and French plan to send Iran nuclear case to the IAEA’s Board of Governors while the negotiations were underway.

He also reminded the French leader of Iranian pro-peace efforts and preventing terrorism from building a presence in Europe.

"If you today hold elections peacefully, it is because of the Islamic Republic's efforts to battle and end terrorism in the region," Raisi told Macron.
