Zarif Slams Trump’s Anti-Iran Remarks Saying Govt. Drives Legitimacy from People

Alwaght-Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says US President Donald Trump will learn that Iranians will never bow to pressure.

In a post on his Twitter account on Sunday, Zarif noted that Trump is grasping "at every straw" to portray his failed policies on Tehran

"Only thing proven is that he rejoices over the misery that he thinks he has imposed on ordinary Iranians. Like his predecessors, he will learn that Iranians never submit to pressure," Zarif said in a post on his Twitter account on Sunday.

US President Trump has been pursuing a “maximum pressure” campaign on Iran, using economic sanctions to choke the country’s income sources.

Trump withdrew his country in May 2018 from the multilateral Iran nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and decided to re-impose unilateral sanctions against Tehran.

In November, the Trump administration announced the re-imposition of the “toughest” sanctions ever against Iran's banking and energy sectors with the aim of cutting off the country's oil sales and crucial exports.

A first round of American sanctions took effect in August, targeting Iran's access to the US dollar, metals trading, coal, industrial software, and auto sector.

Iranian complaints about the latest round of US sanctions succeeded at a UN court. In October, judges at the International Court Of Justice (ICJ) ordered the United States to ensure sanctions do not affect humanitarian aid or civil aviation safety.
