Alwaght- Indonesia's island of Lombok was rocked on Sunday by another devastating earthquake, the second in two weeks as the popular resort already has been under state of emergency.
The magnitude 6.9 earthquake has claimed lives of at least 91 people, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency reported on Monday.. A tsunami warning was also issued, but called off a few hours later.
It said that the number is likely to rise as more information becomes available from the regions that were hit the hardest. Thousands of people have been evacuated, and hundreds are believed to be injured.
The magnitude, initially reported by the USGS as 7.0. was later revised to 6.9.
Recorded to the north of the tropical island destination, the earthquake happened around 6:46pm local time.
Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported the islands had experienced more than 100 aftershocks in the four hours after last week’s quake and feared a further major tremor was imminent.
