France Hands Soaked in Syrian Blood: President Assad

Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad blamed on Monday France for supporting terrorism and bloodshed in his country, saying Paris was in no position to talk about peace.

Alwaght- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad blamed on Monday France for supporting terrorism and bloodshed in his country, saying Paris was in no position to talk about peace.

Syria's state media  quoted president assad as telling reporters after meeting a Russian delegation that “France spearheaded support for terrorism and their hands are soaked in Syrian blood from the first days and we do not see they have changed their stance fundamentally.”

"Those who support terrorism have no right to talk about peace let alone the right to interfere in the Syrian affairs. All their statements mean nothing to us and have no value,” he added.

President Assad remarks were in response to French President Emmanuel Macron who said earlier on Monday he would push for peace talks involving all parties in the six-year-old Syrian conflict, including Bashar al-Assad, promising “initiatives” early next year.

Syrian leader also rebuked the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) as traitors.  SDF is Kurdish-led militia which is now in control of much of eastern Syria.

“All those who work under the command of any foreign country in their own country and against their army and people are traitors, quite simply, regardless of their names,” he said, “and that is our evaluation of the groups that work for the Americans in Syria.”

President Assad further added that the Syrian government welcomes the UN’s and the international community’s efforts to bring peace to Syria – as long as Syrian sovereignty is respected.

“Any UN role in the upcoming elections must be based on the UN Charter which emphasizes Syria’s sovereignty and the Syrian people’s decision. So, we’re not worried about any UN role, and we can say that we welcome any UN role as long as it respects Syrian sovereignty, as anything that impinges on this sovereignty is rejected,” Bashar al-Assad concluded.
