Alwaght- Iran has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s decision to move his country’s embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds (Jerusalem), saying the measure will ignite a new Palestinian Intifada (uprising).
In a Wednesday night statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said Washington’s recognition of al-Quds as Israel’s capital is a “blatant violation of international resolutions.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always stressed that the most important reason behind instability and insecurity in the Middle East is [Israel’s] continued occupation, the US’ relentless support for the Zionist regime, and denying the oppressed Palestinian nation the right to establish an independent state with al-Quds as it capital,” the statement said.
Describing the US move as “provocative and unwise,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry warned that “recognizing al-Quds as the Israeli regime’s capital” will “provoke Muslims and inflame a new Intifada (uprising) and intensify extremism and violent behavior for which the US and the Israeli regime will be responsible.”
The statement added that the imprudent and provocative decision of the US to recognize al-Quds as the capital of the Zionist regime not only does not at all contribute to peace and stability in the region but also reveals the nasty intentions of the US administration and further discredits the US before those who still have confidence in the neutrality of Washington in the mirage-like trend of peace talks.
The statement also called on the international community to pressure the US not to go through with the embassy move or the recognition of al-Quds as the Israeli regime’s capital.
The statement was issued shortly after Trump officially declared the disputed city of al-Quds as Israel’s capital, despite warnings from around the world that the measure risks triggering a fresh wave of violence in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Republic of Iran expresses its full sympathy with the Palestinian people and once again underlines the main responsibility of the international community, particularly the UN, to put an end to the occupation of the Palestinian territories and the holy Quds and contribute to the Palestinians’ efforts to achieve their basic rights.
