ALWAGHT- Iranian officials in Beirut to honor martyred Hezbollah leaders Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah and Seyyed Hashem Safieddine have reaffirmed Tehran’s support for Lebanon and the resistance.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf arrived in Beirut on Sunday as part of a high-ranking delegation to attend the funeral of Hezbollah leaders Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah and Seyyed Hashem Safieddine. He stated that his visit would also focus on assessing threats to Lebanon and Hezbollah while reinforcing ties between Iran and Lebanon. Qalibaf reaffirmed Iran’s unwavering support for any consensus among Lebanon’s government, parliament, resistance, and people.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei emphasized that the Iranian delegation’s presence at the funeral highlights Tehran’s solidarity with the anti-Israel resistance. He noted that the participation of high-ranking officials underscores Iran’s ongoing support for Lebanon and Palestine in their fight against occupation and aggression. The funeral ceremony is set to take place at Beirut’s Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium, Lebanon’s largest sports arena.
Israel assassinated Nasrallah in an airstrike on southern Beirut in September 2024 using US-supplied bunker-busting bombs. The following month, it carried out a similar attack to kill Safieddine, who served as the head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council.
