Israeli Forces Strike Gaza Shelters Shortly After UN Aid Arrival

ALWAGHT- The United Nations reports that Israel permitted just one aid convoy into northern Gaza this month, but shortly after its arrival, Israeli forces targeted shelters where the supplies were distributed, forcing people to flee.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that Israeli authorities have blocked or hindered all efforts to deliver essential food and healthcare to tens of thousands of people stranded in northern Gaza this month. OCHA stated that Israeli officials allowed only one World Food Program (WFP) convoy into the region on November 11.

The convoy included two trucks carrying ready-to-eat meals and wheat flour, along with a third truck containing bottled water. The aid was distributed at the Mahdia al-Shawwa School, a shelter for displaced Palestinians, and another nearby public shelter. However, shortly after the aid was delivered, Israeli forces surrounded the area, shelled it, and forced residents to evacuate.

Palestinian media reported that Israeli forces set fire to the Mahdia al-Shawwa School and demolished the building. UN humanitarian chief Martin Griffiths condemned the actions, telling the UN Security Council that the world was witnessing "acts reminiscent of the gravest international crimes" in Gaza.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel's actions in Gaza have led to at least 43,665 Palestinian deaths and over 103,000 injuries, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
