Alwaght-Iran has dismantled a terrorist cell affiliated to the ISIS Takfiri terrorist group in the just several days after thwarting several terror attacks in the country.
In a statement, The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says it has apprehended members of terror cell linked to ISIS terrorists in the western region of Iran.
The spokesman for the IRGC in Kermanshah Province said on Tuesday that members linked to the terror group were arrested in an operation coordinated with officers of Iran’s Intelligence Ministry.
Speaking to the semi-official Mizan news agency, Colonel Mohammad Kalantari did not give more details including in which city or town the terror cell was active. The western Iranian province of Kermanshah borders with Iraq, where ISIS controls large swathes of territory.
Kalantari pointed out that the arrested terrorists “were militarily prepared and possessed guns and bandoleers.”
There was no clear information whether the terrorist cell was plotting an attack inside Iran or preparing for terror activities in Iraq.
Meanwhile IRGC’s chief commander in Kermanshah has said that several terror cells affiliated to the ISIS terrorist group have been apprehended in the province over the past two years. Brigadier General Bahman Reyhani said during a briefing with reporters that all the apprehended terrorists had been recruiting terrorists for ISIS “outside Iran.”
Last week Iran’s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi said the country has foiled several terrorist attacks across the country and arrested over 40 terrorists. He added that over 20 operatives, who were traveling between Iran and neighboring Syria and Iraq, were detained in border regions.
Early this week Commander of Iran’s Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan warned the ISIS terrorist group that approaching any closer than 40 kilometers to the Iranian borders will draw the country’s crushing response.
