ISIS Stabbing Attack Kills 1 Injures 4 in Paris

ISIS Stabbing Attack Kills 1 Injures 4 in Paris

Alwaght- The ISIS terrorist group has claimed responsibility for a stabbing attack in Paris that killed one person and injured four others.

Referring the attacker as a "soldier" of the ISIS in a statement released via the terrorist group's self-style news agency, Amaq, ISIS claimed that the incident was in response to bombing of its positions in Syria and Iraq.

According to security sources, the attack happened close to the city's main opera house in an area full of bars and restaurants.

The assailant was killed by police after stabbing five people with a knife, killing one and injuring four more, two of whom are in critical condition.

According to French media reports the attacker was of Chechen origin and aged around 20.

Police found no documentation on the attacker, but investigators identified him by his fingerprints, Europe1 radio station reported on Sunday.

The assailant was a Russian born in Chechnya in 1997, RTL radio network said, adding that his mother and father had been taken into custody for questioning.

Disturbing footage purportedly filmed from the window of Hotel Louvre Marsollier on Rue Marsollier, where the attack took place, was posted by Carol Drummond on Twitter. It showed people running through the streets in a panic, as a body lays on a crosswalk in the street.

Drummond has since deleted the video.

Following the incident, French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted that his country "once again pays the price of blood" but stressed that France would "yield not an inch to the enemies of freedom." "I salute on behalf of all French people the courage of the police officers who neutralized the terrorist," he added.

Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said the assault was being investigated as a terrorist attack.

The killing comes as France is under a constant threat of terrorism. A string of Takfiri attacks have claimed the lives of over 245 people around France in the past three years.

Nearly 120 people were killed on November 13, 2015 after being held hostage by gunmen at the Bataclan concert hall in central Paris. Scores of people were reportedly killed in other attacks across Paris, for which the Takfiri group of ISIS claimed responsibility.

During the Paris attacks in 2015, ISIS-affiliated terrorists used guns and explosive vests to strike almost simultaneously a concert hall, a major stadium, and restaurants and bars, injuring hundreds in addition to those killed.
