Half of Britons Want Trump’s Visit Canceled: Survey

Alwaght- Around half of Britons think their government must withdraw its invitation for US president’s visit following his support for a British far-right group.

According to a survey published by The Independent on Wednesday, 48 percent of British people want the visit canceled, while 31 percent said it should not, and 21 percent said they did not know.

Poll conducted by BMG Research asked respondents whether an invitation for Trump should be officially withdrawn following or not.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May traveled to Washington in January to meet with Trump soon after his inauguration and extended an invitation from Queen Elizabeth II for a state visit.

But the trip has been postponed over concerns about the threat of protests.

Trump’s journey to Britain will likely be beset by demonstrations over his “Muslim travel ban” and the decision to recognize Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s capital and climate change policies.

The poll also asked whether people thought Trump should be allowed to come to the UK in “any capacity.”

Forty three percent said he should be able to visit, 40 percent said he should not and 17 percent did not express an opinion either way, the poll revealed.

On Wednesday, Trump provoked a wave of anger and disgust from US human rights groups and UK politicians for re-tweeting anti-Muslim videos posted by Jayda Fransen, deputy leader of the far-right group Britain First.

Activists have warned that more than a million people could take to the streets to protest his upcoming UK visit, after a boom in the number of people pledging to march following his incendiary re-tweets.
