British-Flagged Gaza Aid Vessel Intercepted by Israeli Navy

British-Flagged Gaza Aid Vessel Intercepted by Israeli Navy

ALWAGHT- The interception of a British-flagged aid ship by Israeli forces en route to Gaza has sparked renewed international outrage over Tel Aviv’s ongoing blockade.

Israeli naval forces seized the Handala, a British-flagged humanitarian ship carrying aid and 21 unarmed passengers—including lawmakers, medics, and volunteers—en route to Gaza from Italy. Israeli drones were seen circling the vessel before navy ships approached. Despite multiple attempts by the crew to contact the Israeli military, no response was received, prompting a distress signal.

Onboard, French MEP Emma Fourreau confirmed the vessel's capture, while video footage showed the passengers in life jackets with raised hands to avoid escalation. Fourreau condemned the Israeli blockade, calling for an end to what she described as genocide in Gaza. The Handala was carrying essential supplies such as food, medicine, and baby formula.

This incident follows a pattern of Israeli actions against aid missions, including the seizure of another ship last month and the targeting of a convoy involving activist Greta Thunberg in May. Human rights groups continue to condemn Israel’s blockade, which has prevented the delivery of critical aid and contributed to a humanitarian crisis that has claimed over 59,700 Palestinian lives, mostly women and children.
