Iran Warns of Swift and Firm Reaction If IAEA Board Adopts Anti-Iran Resolution

ALWAGHT- Iran's top diplomat condemned Washington and European powers for their "provocative" IAEA resolution, vowing a firm response to any action against Tehran.

During a Tuesday phone call, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya discussed bilateral relations and key international issues, with a focus on Iran's nuclear program. Araghchi reiterated Iran's commitment to its peaceful nuclear rights, including uranium enrichment, while condemning the US and European trio (France, Germany, UK) for proposing an anti-Iran resolution at the IAEA Board of Governors. He warned that any punitive IAEA decision would trigger a proportional response from Tehran, holding the sponsoring nations accountable for the consequences.

Araghchi emphasized Iran's opposition to nuclear weapons while defending its right to peaceful nuclear energy, praising Japan's balanced diplomatic approach. He urged Japan and other IAEA members to support dialogue over confrontation. Japanese FM Iwaya welcomed ongoing US-Iran negotiations and affirmed Iran's right to peaceful nuclear activities, signaling Tokyo's support for diplomatic resolution.

The discussion took place amid indirect US-Iran talks, with five rounds of Oman-mediated negotiations held since April 12 aimed at reviving the nuclear deal and lifting sanctions. The next round is scheduled for June 15 in Muscat, highlighting continued diplomatic efforts despite rising tensions over the IAEA resolution.
