China Warns Over Imminent Korea War

China Warns Over Imminent Korea War

Alwaght- China’s foreign minister has expressed concern over an imminent war in the Korean Peninsula adding that military option cannot resolve tension in the Korean Peninsula.

"Military force cannot resolve the issue," Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters in Beijing. "Amid tensions we will also find a kind of opportunity to return to talks." He added that, “Amid challenge there is opportunity. Amid tensions we will also find a kind of opportunity to return to talks.”

An editorial in the influential newspaper Global Times, which is published by the Chinese Communist Party’ People’s Daily, said the situation on the Korean Peninsula could not be compared to that of Syria.

The escalation comes as North Korea prepares to celebrate the birthday of its late leader Kim Il-sung on Saturday, which is a state holiday called ‘Day of the Sun’. Pyongyang has a record of timing demonstrations of military strength to the date, as many observers say it might do so this year to test Trump’s resolve.

China has expressed concern after reports emerged that the US is prepared to launch a preemptive strike with conventional weapons against North Korea should Washington become convinced that North Korea is about to follow through with a nuclear weapons test.

North Korea has warned that a "big event" is near, and US officials now claim signs point to a nuclear test that could come as early as this weekend.

Less than a week after US President Donald Trump met with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, the two leaders once again engaged on Wednesday, where among other things they discussed the North Kore While China insists on a peaceful solution, Washington continues to flex its muscles in the region. Last week Washington rerouted its Carl Vinson towards the Korean peninsula in a show of force.  ‘Catastrophic consequences’: N. Korea vows to retaliate against deployment of US strike group “We are sending an armada. Very powerful,” Trump told Fox News. “We have submarines. Very powerful. Far more powerful than the aircraft carrier.” On Monday North Korea has declared it is ready for “any mode of war desired by the US” in response to provocations and war mongering by Washington.

In a statement, North Korea warned of “catastrophic consequences” in response to any further provocations by the US, days after a US navy battle group was sent to waters off the Korean peninsula.

Over 28,500 US troops, sailors, airmen and Marines in South Korea are a major source of tensions in the region and a pointer to Washington’s policy of provoking other countries in the region especially North Korea.
