Iraqi Popular Forces Capture Mosul-Raqqa Highway, Cut ISIS Rout to Syria

Iraqi Popular Forces Capture Mosul-Raqqa Highway, Cut ISIS Rout to Syria

Alwaght- Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, have managed to wrestle control of the main highway connecting the ISIS-held city of Mosul and the terrorist group's de facto capital in Syria, Raqqa.

The group’s spokesman, Jaafar al-Husseini, announced on Wednesday that the troops had gained control of the highway linking the northern Iraqi city to Syria's Raqqa in a move that effectively cuts the terrorist’s main supply line.

Forces from the PMF are part of vast operations launched on October 17 by the Iraqi army, Shia and Sunni volunteer fighters as well as Kurdish Peshmerga forces to retake Mosul, the last stronghold of ISIS in Iraq.

Days before the onset of Mosul Liberation Operation, RIA Novosti news agency reported that the US and the Saudi Arabia planed to transfer nearly 9,000 ISIS terrorists from Iraq into the neighboring Syria.

The sate-run Russian news agency cited some unnamed source in military and diplomatic circles in Moscow as saying that the intelligence agencies of both countries aim to facilitate terrorists transfer into Syria in a bid to pave the way for terrorists to take part in a major offensive that aims at recapturing Deir Ezzor and Palmyra from Syrian government.

"American and Saudi intelligence services have reached an agreement to provide all militants a safe passage to leave the city with their families before" Iraqi army forces and their allies launch the operation to free Mosul, the source suggested.

To foil this plot, Iraqi pro-government Popular Mobilization Forces were deployed to  the eastern parts of Mosul in order to cut off ISIS terrorists rout to Syria.
