Over 80 Killed, Dozens Injured as Two Blasts Rock Iraq’s Capital, Baghdad

Alwaght- Two separate blasts rocked the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad, claiming lives of at least 82 people and injuring 200 more.

The first explosion went off in the city’s central Karada district outside a local restaurant early on Sunday morning, while the second blast happened shortly afterwards in Sha'ab district, eastern Baghdad.

Iraqi Interior Ministry spokesman Saad Maan acknowledged that Karrada's blast was a a Truck-refrigerator packed with explosive materials.

Karrada is an upper middle class district where is mostly populated by Shiites but also has quite a large Christian minority. The area gets really busy after sunset during the holy month of Ramadan.

The ISIS terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the Karrada car bomb.

Shortly after the car bomb, the second blast that targeted the Shaab neighborhoodthat. Sky News Arabia said a suspected homemade explosive device was used to hit a market.

Suffering tremendous losses over the past months, in Fallujah in particular, ISIS terrorist group frequently targets Baghdad, particularly those neighborhoods that are inhabited by Shiite Muslims, to undermine government efforts to maintain security.

Baghdad was the scene of back-to-back bombings claimed by the ISIS terror group last month, when nearly 200 people lost their lives in and near the city in just a week.
