Alwaght- Opposition parties in Turkish Parliament have voiced their opposition to a possible Turkish-Saudi military intervention in Syria.
"The [Republican People's Party] CHP is against every decision that would lead Turkey to a war," the CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu wrote in his Twitter account on Sunday.
The Turkish military shelled Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) forces at the Menagh air base near Azez in northern Syria and also targeted Syrian government forces on Saturday.
Selahattin Demirtas, the co-chairman of the left-wing pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) accused the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government of dragging Turkey into war. When asked about possible military intervention in Syria, Demirtaş said that the AK Party wants to make war a fait accompli without the consent and support of the Turkish nation and enter the war in Syria through Saudi Arabia. Demirtaş also said that it would be a disaster for Turkey to become militarily involved in the Syrian war, adding that neither Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu nor other government officials are aware of the risks of such an intervention.
Saudi Arabia sent jets to Turkey's İncirlik Air Base in southern Turkey on Saturday. Demirtaş said that if the jets take off from the Turkish base and hit targets in Syria, Turkey will automatically find itself in middle of a destructive war in Syria.
Elsewhere the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli warned on Saturday that a possible land incursion in Syria in tandem with Saudi Arabia would lead to "unimaginably grave" consequences.
Responding to remarks by Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Bahçeli said: "If a military operation is being planned in the name of executing or assisting global projects and cooperation is being forged with Saudi Arabia to that effect, the results could be terrible. It could lead to unimaginably grave consequences."
"Turkey will not be a proxy to execute scenarios of violence and atrocity drafted in foreign capitals. Otherwise, the outcome could be catastrophic," noted Bahçeli.
Last week Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem warned his country will confront any foreign aggressors following reports emerged that the Saudi regime and Turkey are considering sending troops to Syria.
