Protests after Friday Prayers in Indian-Ruled Kashmir

Saturday 23 January 2016
Protests after Friday Prayers in Indian-Ruled Kashmir

Alwaght- Security forces fire rubber bullets and teargas against Muslim protesters in Indian-ruled Kashmir after Friday prayers.
Irate demonstrators throw stones at police to protest against the killing of Parvez Ahmed Guroo in Pulwama District by Indian security forces on Wednesday.
Meanwhile The Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani—who continues to be under house detention—was again barred from offering Friday prayers, a party spokesman said.
“GeelaniSahaib, despite being unwell, continued to remain under house detention and was once again unable to offer the Friday prayers. The process of his illegal house detention started in 2010 and continues till date. The government is silent as to how long will this extraordinary imprisonment continue,” the Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said in a statement.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference is an alliance of 26 political, social and religious organizations formed on March 9, 1993 as a political front to raise the cause of Kashmiri separatism.
The spokesman appealed to local and international human rights organization to take serious note of the continuous imprisonment of Geelani and put pressure on the Indian government to “stop playing with the life of the pro-freedom leader.”
Anti-India sentiment runs deep in Kashmir where separatists have been fighting since 1989 for its independence or merger with Pakistan, which controls the western part of the region.
