ALWAGHT- Major General Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), has warned US officials that history could repeat itself, with Washington facing another defeat at the hands of Iran. In a message published late on Friday, October 9, 2026, Rezaei criticized US efforts to frame the confrontation with Iran as a civilizational conflict.
Rezaei referred to the ancient confrontation between the Sasanian Empire and Rome, recalling the episode in which Roman Emperor Valerian was captured by Sasanian King Shapur I. He suggested that US officials should consider this historical precedent when discussing Iran and its civilization.
His remarks came in response to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s speech in Athens, where Rubio invoked Western civilization while discussing Iran. Rezaei argued that those who bring history into the debate must also be prepared for past events to be repeated.
