ALWAGHT- Iran has denounced US President Donald Trump’s threats to destroy the Islamic Republic, arguing that the remarks constitute a serious breach of international law and the UN Charter rather than mere political posturing.
Iran has filed a complaint with the UN over remarks attributed to US President Donald Trump during his September 22 address to the UN General Assembly. Iranian envoy Gholamhossein Darzi said the statements amounted to threats to destroy Iran and violated international law and the UN Charter.
Darzi cited several statements by Trump, including threats to “annihilate” the Islamic Republic and wipe out parts of the country. He argued that the remarks were part of a broader pattern of threats against Iran rather than isolated political rhetoric.
The Iranian diplomat said such threats were particularly serious because they were made from the UN General Assembly, which is intended to promote international peace and cooperation. He urged the UN to address what he described as the normalization of threats against a member state.
The letter also referenced previous US-Israeli military actions against Iran, including the 12-day war in June 2025 and a later conflict beginning in February 2026. Iranian authorities say the two rounds of fighting caused thousands of deaths and significant damage to civilian and economic infrastructure.
