ALWAGHT- Tehran on Monday accused Washington of deliberately attacking civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear sites during its ongoing military campaign, while confirming it had received mediation proposals to lower tensions but insisting it would protect its national interests through both diplomatic engagement and military action.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei accused the United States of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities during its military campaign, saying the attacks violated international law and endangered public safety. He also urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to explicitly condemn the US strike on the Darkhoveyn nuclear power plant construction site.
Baghaei said Iran remains committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) while reviewing its policies in line with national interests. He confirmed that Tehran has received mediation proposals from regional countries aimed at reducing tensions with Washington but said diplomatic efforts would continue alongside military measures to defend the country's interests.
He rejected claims that the Iran-US Memorandum of Understanding had failed because of differing interpretations, insisting the agreement's provisions are clear and accusing Washington of violating its commitments. Baghaei also stressed that Iran would continue exercising its sovereign rights over the Strait of Hormuz and warned of consequences if the US targeted Kharg Island.
The spokesman also dismissed US allegations of Iranian military activities in Cuba, announced that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will attend the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting, and said Iraq's prime minister is expected to visit Tehran for talks on trade and regional security. He further rejected claims surrounding a Mahan Air flight to Yemen and denied US assertions that images of the Minab school attack were fabricated with artificial intelligence.
