ALWAGHT- The aircraft carrying the coffin of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has arrived in Iraq for funeral ceremonies.
The plane that arrived in Najaf also carried the coffins of the martyred members of Ayatollah Khamenei's family. Funeral processions are scheduled to take place on Wednesday in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala.
Millions of Iraqis are expected to attend the ceremonies in honor of Ayatollah Khamenei, who was widely respected in Iraq and regarded as a source of emulation by many Shia Muslims. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi declared Wednesday a nationwide public holiday to facilitate the large-scale event.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also arrived in Najaf to attend the funeral and hold meetings with Iraqi officials. The Iraq ceremonies follow earlier funeral processions in Tehran and Qom, with Ayatollah Khamenei's burial scheduled for Thursday at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad.
