China Pledges Continued Support for Cuba Despite US Pressure

ALWAGHT- China's Foreign Ministry has pledged ongoing support for Cuba, vowing to oppose US sanctions and interference. The statement reaffirmed the strong bilateral relationship and condemned the US energy blockade.

China has reaffirmed its strong support for Cuba, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian pledging during a regular briefing that Beijing will "do our best" to assist its ally. He emphasized China's firm stance in defending Cuba's sovereignty and opposing external interference, specifically condemning actions that deprive the Cuban people of their rights.

The pledge comes amid heightened regional tensions following a recent US executive order that escalated pressure on Havana. The order, signed by former President Donald Trump, authorizes tariffs on countries supplying oil to Cuba, a measure Havana condemns as an "energy blockade" designed to cripple its economy and worsen living conditions.

The Cuban economy is facing severe strain from the blockade, resulting in shortages of fuel, food, and other essentials, even disrupting air travel and the vital tourism sector. Against this backdrop, China's latest statement positions it as a key diplomatic and practical ally for Cuba, with Chinese officials calling for an end to the sanctions and taking steps to provide necessary aid.
