ALWAGHT- Iran has reiterated its opposition to Israel’s claimed recognition of Somaliland, calling it “fundamentally baseless and meaningless” and portraying it as part of a calculated attempt to unsettle the region.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned Israel’s claimed recognition of Somaliland, with spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei calling it legally baseless and politically meaningless. He argued the move violated Somalia’s territorial integrity, lacked international legitimacy, and was rejected by the OIC, Arab League, and African Union, framing it as part of an effort to fragment Muslim countries and destabilize the region.
Baghaei said the issue extended beyond Somalia, describing it as a broader strategy to fuel instability across West Asia, the Horn of Africa, and the Red Sea. He warned that such actions aimed to create a weaker regional order more vulnerable to Israeli influence, and reiterated Tehran’s view that Israel’s policies are inherently hostile to peace.
Addressing security and diplomacy, Baghaei dismissed speculation about new Israeli-US military plans against Iran, stressing that Tehran would not be swayed by psychological pressure and that its armed forces remained fully prepared. He also said negotiations with Washington were unrealistic under current conditions, citing past misuse of diplomacy, while reaffirming Iran’s conditional commitment to dialogue.
The spokesman further rejected reports of Iranian diplomatic withdrawals from Venezuela, reaffirmed Iran’s support for Yemen’s territorial unity, reiterated adherence to the One-China policy, and emphasized that Iran-Russia relations are based on mutual interests and not directed against third parties.
