Rising Repression and Denial of Medical Care in Occupation Prisons

ALWAGHT- Palestinian prisoners are experiencing heightened violence, medical neglect, and life-threatening conditions in Israeli jails, with human rights organizations warning of systematic mistreatment.

The Prisoners' Media Office has warned of a severe escalation in Israeli prison abuses, highlighting systematic targeting of Palestinian prisoner leaders through beatings, psychological pressure, and intimidation. High-profile detainees, including Abdullah Barghouti, Bilal Barghouti, and Ahed Ghalmeh, were reportedly dragged into prison yards and beaten, while families of leaders like Marwan Barghouti have faced threats to undermine morale. These actions are part of broader efforts to crush prisoner resistance, which the office says have largely failed.

Detainees are reportedly enduring extreme conditions, including daily beatings, deliberate starvation, exposure to cold, and lack of medical care. The Palestinian Commission of Detainees' and Ex-Detainees' Affairs documented deteriorating conditions in multiple prisons, noting shortages of food, clothing, hygiene supplies, and critical medical treatment. Overcrowding, solitary confinement, and collective punishments exacerbate the harsh environment, with seriously ill prisoners like Fadi Awda facing life-threatening neglect.

Female prisoners face similar abuses, including arbitrary detention, harsh interrogation, restricted visits, and denial of medical care, with around 50 women currently detained. Both the Prisoners' Media Office and the Commission hold Israeli authorities accountable, warning that these conditions constitute war crimes under international law and calling on international organizations to intervene and protect detainees.
