ALWAGHT- Three IRGC Ground Force members were martyred in a Wednesday attack by "terrorist groups" near the border city of Lar in southeastern Iran.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) stated that three of its Ground Force members were killed in an attack by "terrorist and hostile groups" near the southeastern border on Wednesday. The troops were reportedly on a border protection mission. The IRGC has launched a manhunt in the area, confirming that operations to track down the attackers are currently underway.
The attack occurred in Sistan and Baluchestan province, a region bordering Pakistan that has seen repeated terrorist incidents targeting both civilians and security forces over recent years. The province has often been attacked by terrorist groups like Jaish al-Adl, which claimed responsibility for an attack in August that killed five policemen, and an assault on a courthouse in July that left six dead.
Iranian authorities have frequently asserted that terrorist groups operating in its southeastern and southwestern border areas have ties to foreign intelligence services. The deadliest recent attack attributed to Jaish al-Adl was a February 2019 suicide bombing against an IRGC convoy, which killed 27 members of the force.
