Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, stressed that the credibility of the European troika—France, Germany, and the UK—as negotiating partners depends on demonstrating independence and good faith. He noted that while the outcome of future talks is uncertain, past experience provides clear lessons.
Baghaei criticized the EU3 for failing to fulfill their JCPOA commitments over the past decade and for attempting to misuse the agreement’s dispute resolution mechanism to reinstate UN Security Council resolutions against Iran, describing such actions as legally and morally unjustified. He urged the European countries to reconsider their policies to prove they can be trustworthy actors in any future negotiations.
Responding to recent European statements and anti-Iran rhetoric, Baghaei called them repetitive and meaningless, emphasizing that Iran neither possesses nor seeks nuclear weapons. He further stressed that only by demonstrating independence and sound decision-making, rather than acting under external influence, can the EU3 be regarded as credible negotiating partners.
