Tens of Thousands Rally for Palestine in Sydney as Nationwide Protests Erupt

ALWAGHT- Approximately 27 pro-Palestine protests took place across the country, including in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Canberra.

Tens of thousands of Australians participated in pro-Palestinian demonstrations across major cities, calling for an end to Israel’s occupation and condemning the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The largest rally, held in Sydney’s central business district, drew an estimated 30,000 participants.

The protests followed a court ruling that blocked activists from gathering at the Sydney Opera House, prompting organizers to relocate the march downtown. Similar rallies took place in Melbourne and over two dozen other locations nationwide, coordinated by the Palestine Action Group. The demonstrations occurred as Israeli forces began partial withdrawals under a US-brokered ceasefire aimed at halting months of deadly conflict in Gaza.

Footage showed demonstrators waving Palestinian flags and wearing keffiyehs, highlighting solidarity with Gaza’s population. The rallies follow Australia’s formal recognition of the State of Palestine in September 2025, a move organizers say signals growing public support for Palestinian self-determination and frustration with Israel’s ongoing occupation.
