ALWAGHT- The Israeli military launched an attack in southern Lebanon that left at least one dead, constituting yet another violation of the 2024 ceasefire accord.
Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that an Israeli drone strike on Sunday evening targeted a vehicle in Nabatieh province, killing Mohammad Ali Yassin, whom Israel claimed was a Hezbollah member involved in weapons production. The attack followed Friday’s Israeli airstrikes in the village of Aitaroun, which killed another Hezbollah member, Hussein Khalil Mansour, and injured two others.
These incidents come against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel, which began in October 2023 after Israel launched its war on Gaza. The conflict escalated into a full-scale war by September 2024, resulting in more than 4,000 Lebanese deaths and 17,000 injuries, mostly civilians. Although a ceasefire was reached in November 2024, Israel has continued near-daily strikes in southern Lebanon, claiming to target Hezbollah positions.
Hezbollah maintains that its retaliatory actions will continue as long as Israel persists with its Gaza campaign and violations of Lebanese sovereignty. Despite US and Israeli calls for the group to disarm, many in Lebanon argue that Hezbollah remains the only effective force capable of resisting Israeli occupation and preventing further incursions into Lebanese territory.
