Pezeshkian in Armenia for Agreements, Talks on US Influence in Region

ALWAGHT- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is in Armenia to sign key agreements reflecting mutual interests and to address concerns over the US presence in the region.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian began his two-nation tour in Armenia on Monday, where he will meet the country’s leaders, sign cooperation agreements, and engage with local elites and Iranian expatriates. He emphasized that strengthening ties with neighboring and allied countries is a top priority for Iran, highlighting the North-South transport corridor as a key topic for discussion.

Pezeshkian also raised concerns about the presence of US firms in the region, warning that past experiences showed such companies could pursue hidden agendas under the guise of commercial activity. His remarks come after Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a US-brokered peace deal, granting Washington exclusive rights to develop a transport corridor in Armenia’s Syunik province—an arrangement Iran opposes for altering the regional balance.

Following Armenia, Pezeshkian will travel to Belarus to advance cooperation in technology, agriculture, industry, and cultural fields. He praised Minsk for consistently supporting Iran in international forums, including condemning Israeli actions, and stressed that Iran seeks deeper partnerships with countries aligned on strategic issues.
